Going to meetings and “networking” often makes people feel they’ve done something productive when, sadly, they usually haven’t. The same is true with considering the application process a numbers game. “Oh, if I shotgun blast my resume everywhere on the Earth, something’ll hit at some point.” Maybe, maybe not. One thing you’re definitely accomplishing with that strategy is telling the market you’re desperate – in fact, so desperate that you aren’t even bothering to read the job requirements. You’re also p1ssing off potential employers by wasting their time.
