I remember Wayne Dyer telling a story about hot yoga– being uncomfortable and sweaty. And he mentioned, “There’s a time to be uncomfortable. There’s a time to be hot.” With the Summer Solstice coming up on Sunday, it definitely seems like we’re in the correct time of year to be hot! ☀️
In this week’s podcast episode, I’ll be answering some viewer mail from the last episode about Toxic Positivity. Speaking of the Solstice, we sometimes forget that there is a time and a season for things. A time to be hot, a time to be cold. A time to work hard and persevere, a time to rest. A time for summer, a time for winter. After the Summer Solstice, the wheel will turn towards autumn. It may not feel like it right now, but the days will slowly get a little shorter as we move towards the dark half of the year. This is as it should be. (And I’m not just saying that because Fall is my favorite season.)
Toxic positivity robs us of that reality. Putting a premium on “happiness at all costs, dammit” just isn’t a realistic standard. It creates a false construct that you fail to meet up to, which only causes you to feel worse.
I’ll be talking about this in more detail on Thursday. See you then.
