Yesterday I watched Bob Proctor’s video about fear. I can honestly say it’s one of the best explanations I’ve ever heard. (You can watch the video here.)
Fear stems from ignorance.
Some people confuse ignorance with stupidity. This is not accurate. Ignorance is simply not knowing. If you asked me to speak Welsh, I’d be woefully lost. I don’t know the language– I don’t have enough knowledge of it to speak it. Once we gain understanding of something, we begin to lose fear around it. Why? Because we understand.
“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” Proverbs 4:7 Focus your “getting” on gaining wisdom and understanding. When we don’t understand, we feel fear and doubt. This often spins out into anxiety and fear, which makes us feel uneasy about our place in the world.
Suppression doesn’t work.
Trying to convince yourself or fake yourself out that you’re not upset over a situation or scared of an outcome does not work. Bob’s suggested antidote is study and I agree. So what do you need to know? What should you study, exactly?
- The workings of your own mind.
- The way the world works – energy flow, path of least resistance, and so on.
- The business you’re in – if you’re not an expert now, become one.
In my last podcast episode, I talked about shadow work. As we move further into the time of the year when the night overtakes the day, this is the ideal time to do your own shadow work. Move into your own darkness. Pull your gremlins out into the cold light of day. Worried about money? Stressed out about family dynamics? Frustrated about Covid and how it has impacted your business? Write it down! Start purging all of that out into a journal.
As Bob points out in the video, suppression does not work. When you try to stuff those gremlins into a box and pretend they don’t exist, they WILL find a way out. This creates dis-ease, which, as you may have guessed, leads to disease.
So why not pull those gremlins out and take their power away from them?
