I don’t know about you, but where I live in Oklahoma, we’re in the dog days of summer. It’s hot and humid and you can’t walk outside without breaking into an immediate sweat. And this seems to be the time of year when the summer hangs on for dear life. Some parts of the country get autumn weather in September. Meanwhile, I can remember a year where I mowed the yard in November with a t-shirt and shorts on.
At the newsstand this weekend, I found the latest issue of the Farmer’s Almanac, which I immediately devoured. Here’s the real truth: we don’t know. We make plans, we take our best educated guesses, we think ahead, but we don’t actually know.
Sometimes it can be frustrating when we wish things could be different or we’d like to know what the future holds. We want things to bend to our will and be more predictable, dammit!
In those moments, the best thing you can do is let go. (If you’re spiritual, let go and let God.) The other day, my friend, Frank, and I were talking about getting mired in a problem. You can be totally stuck in something with your mind questing for a solution. Then you walk away from it or sleep on it, come back, and see a solution almost immediately. 🤷♀️
Give things space. Let them breathe. Don’t feel that you have to control and predict everything.
As Wayne Dyer wisely said: let life unfold itself to you.
