💡 Tuesday Tips, 8.4.2020

Ever had one of those days where you felt like you woke up on the wrong side of the bed? Or you were a victim of someone else who did LOL?

Sometimes we can fall into the trap of believing that positive thinking or cultivating a positive mindset overall means we will be immune to having a bad day.

Would that it were so! I wish I could tell you that is true, but it’s not. I’m not advocating that we expect problems or sit around waiting for the next issue to crop up. We just have to know how to self-soothe when problems do occur. So how do we go about it?

-Get in the vortex.
What makes you happy? Being on the beach? Watching your puppy? Hiking in the mountains? Mentally get in that happy place ASAP. Don’t sit and dwell on the setback 24/7. When you do, you will always make it much bigger than it actually is.

-Put it in perspective.
So many dust-ups that happen in life and in business are not apocalyptic. Even if they might feel that way in the moment. In 10 years, will you even remember this thing you feel sad or upset about?

-Pass the test so you don’t have to retake it.
If it’s a circumstance where you would normally fly off the handle, punch someone in the jaw, go to bed for a week, devour an entire carton of ice cream in 10 minutes– don’t. Make a different choice. You can tell yourself, “I may be down, but I’m not out.” “This is a rough break and I don’t like it, but I won’t give in to the temptation to blow out a birthday cake candle with a firehose.” If somebody else wants to drive a straight pin with a sledgehammer or run around frantic like Chicken Little, let them. Just remember that you have your own free will and you don’t have to join them.
